"Today the greatest challenge in publishing is distribution and discoverability. As a result, sites like [PictureBooksReview] are more important than ever to discerning readers, new authors and independent publishers."
-Steve Floyd, chief executive officer of August House books

"The interview is so amazing! I appreciate you picking up on all these aspects of what I've been doing. It's always great to talk with someone who understands what goes into these things."

Spread Your Wings (2013)

Written by Me (and some other people)

Published by Knowonder

This is not a review of a picture book. Spread Your Wings is a 190-page anthology of children's stories, each accompanied by a single illustration. There are thirty-one stories all together, each one for a day of the month. If you're reading it in February, you'll have three stories left over. Unless it's a leap year.

I was pretty excited when I learned that a story I had submitted some months before had been accepted, that I was going to be paid - paid! - in actual money, and that it would be available online and in print, and that I would be paid, and that children everywhere would swoon with delight!

I've always wanted to be a writer of children's stories, so I feel that this was a great foot in the door into that whole world.

My story is the third one, so you can actually read most of it in the amazon preview. It is entitled "The Hedge Dragon" and is about a dragon that can create hedge mazes out of thin air. Except now he can't find his way out of his own maze. And there's a princess, because of course there's a princess, and an evil magic sorceror, and several small creatures wearing black armor called the Pinquots.
